 Role Overview

As SPV Director, you will serve as the highest-ranking local authority for the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), with a direct reporting line to the Board of Directors and sponsors. You will lead the local asset operations, financial oversight, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement. Your mission is to maximize the asset’s operational, financial, and environmental performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations and performance of the PV+BESS asset in line with business, regulatory, and ESG requirements
  • Responsible to ensure full compliance with local laws, international standards, HSSE protocols and any Release Group policies
  • Act as primary liaison with the government, utility, potential O&M providers, contractors, and community stakeholders
  • Drive optimal performance of the asset, including predictive maintenance, grid integration, and efficiency upgrades
  • Monitor financial KPIs, supervise budgeting, cash flow management, and report to SPV shareholders
  • Coordinate with insurers, auditors, and regulators as required
  • Lead contract administration, especially the Lease Agreement and the specifics of O&M compliance
  • Represent the SPV in Board meetings and strategic planning sessions
  • Cultivate high-trust relationships with both local and international teams

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in power or infrastructure asset management, including at least 8 years in renewable energy (PV and/or BESS)
  • Strong background in utility-scale energy project finance, with experience in reporting to investors, lenders, or multilateral institutions
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English – oral and written; French and Dutch is a plus
  • Deep technical knowledge of PV, BESS, grid interconnection, and local operational challenges in tropical climates
  • Previous leadership of an SPV, IPP, or JV structure in an African or island-state context required
  • In-depth understanding of EPC/O&M contracts, Leasing Agreements, in the perspective of fully grasping the specifics of the differentiated Release business model and understanding what makes us a truly unique actor
  • Robust understanding of Environmental and social governance (ESG) standards
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Familiarity with IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, and ISO certifications
  • Experience with SCADA systems, remote monitoring, and performance analytics
  • High integrity, strong negotiation acumen, and financial literacy (IRR, DSCR, NPV, etc.)
  • A master’s degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Finance, or Law; MBA or PMP certification is a plus
  • Ability to live and work in São Tomé full-time and travel regionally when required. The candidate must be of Santomean citizenship.
  • Prior exposure to off-grid or islanded energy systems, microgrid technologies, or hybrid configurations is a strong advantage
  • Strong resilience, ability to work independently, and a proactive leadership mindset
