Woman killed and two seriously injured in road accident
A woman died and two others were seriously injured following a road accident involving a Matatu and Canter lorry vehicle along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi highway last night.
The 7.40 pm accident occurred at Kautandini area in Mukaa Subcounty when the driver overtook a fleet of vehicles and in the process collided with an oncoming canter lorry.
Confirming the accident to Kenya News Agency on Thursday morning, Mukaa Subcounty Police Commander Abduba Hussein said the injured are receiving treatment at Sultan Hamud Subcounty Hospital.
“Hellen Kanini (38) suffered serious head injuries and died while being rushed to hospital. The injured included Police Constable Joseph Wachira of Illasit Police Station who sustained intense chest pains and Purity (28) with a head injury. Other unknown passengers came out with minor injuries,” said Hussein while confirming the accident.
He said that the body of the deceased was taken to the Sultan Hamud Subcounty Hospital mortuary for preservation awaiting autopsy while the damaged vehicles were towed to Salama Police Station.
The matatu, a Toyota Hiace Reg. No. KDA 126H of Naekana SACCO was being driven by Simon Ngumi Wambui (37) while the canter, Reg. NO. KDL 034G make Isuzu FRR was being driven by Edward Nduati Ndiboi.
