Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir has announced that the county government plans to roll out a community-based waste collection and recycling initiative that will engage unemployed young people across the county.

Under the program, youths will be engaged in door-to-door garbage collection within residential areas to ensure proper disposal of waste, reduce environmental pollution, and prevent public health risks associated with poorly managed garbage.

The governor noted that lack of proper recycling systems has contributed not only to environmental   pollution but also to missed economic opportunities, adding that structured waste management could benefit unemployed youth by engaging them for pay.

According to the Governor, the initiative will serve a dual purpose of improving cleanliness in Mombasa city while also creating employment opportunities for the youth.

Meanwhile, Governor Nassir called on political aspirants seeking various leadership positions within Mombasa County to be transparent and accountable to residents.

He urged them to clearly outline their development agendas and explain what they intend to do for the people if elected, an undertaking that should have a positive impact for generations to come.

“Leaders must tell the people what they are planning to do and why they want the position and convince voters in a respectful and honest manner,” he said.
