The Ministry of Law and Justice through the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Women and Law in Southern Africa (WLSA) during an event held in Maseru.

The mutual MoU seeks to strengthen cooperation in relation to criminal matters as WLSA promotes advocacy in human rights, justice as well as protecting welfare of women and girls in the country.

In her address, Acting DPP Advocate Lehlanako Mofilikoane said the MoU will ease communication of criminal matters particularly in Thaba-Tseka, Mokhotlong, Quthing, Mokhotlong, Qacha’s Nek and Leribe where the organisation is currently operating otherwise giving support to victims and survivors.

She said this collaboration will further enhance coordination in criminal matters, ease justice and restore hope for those who have endured the pain.

She articulated that while WLSA has a role to support the most vulnerable groups especially women and girls, DPP also has an objective to improve justice inclusive also bearing in mind the element of gender as articulated by National Strategic Development Plan hence the importance of this MoU.

On behalf of WLSA, Advocate Jobo Raswoko, Vice Chairperson of the board expressed gratitude that this day has finally come as it signals their commitment to promoting the rights of women and girls.

He added that now that the pair have signed, this will ease communication and formalise working relations to speed the rule of law.

Since the start of this project in 2024, under the funding of the global fund, over 1832 cases pertaining to issues of abuse were recorded in the above-mentioned districts with 488 being criminal cases hence today’s activity remains the climax.
