Successful Cataract Surgery Performed on 300 Patients

Barentu, 25 June 2026 – Successful cataract surgery has been performed on over 300 patients in Golij sub-zone, in collaboration with Brhan Aini Hospital and Golij Community Hospital, from 14 to 17 June.

Dr. Eyob Beyene, eye surgery expert and coordinator of the program, said that over 700 people were identified with cataract problems during a diagnosis conducted in 2025. He said cataract surgery was performed on 350 patients in July 2025 and currently on 300 patients.

Dr. Eyob also called on the public to properly care for their eyes by keeping them clean and using sunglasses.

Commending the support provided by members of the Brhan Aini medical team, Dr. Merhawi Kiflom, Medical Director of Golij Community Hospital, said that efforts are being made to establish an eye treatment center at the community hospital.

The beneficiaries, commending the hospital staff for restoring their vision, called for the program to be conducted regularly.
