Seminars on Developmental and Welfare Programs

Barentu, 29 October 2025 – Ms. Tekea Tesfamicael, President of the National Union of Eritrean Women, conducted seminars on 27 and 28 October for women in the sub-zones of Teseney and Haikota, focusing on developmental and welfare programs.

Commending the active participation of Eritrean women inside the country and abroad, Ms. Tekea called for strengthened organization for the effective implementation of the programs.

Emphasizing that development programs cannot be realized without the participation of women, and recalling the decisive role of Eritrean women during the armed struggle for independence and in safeguarding national sovereignty, Ms. Tekea urged women to play their due role in national development efforts.

Noting the successful efforts carried out across large parts of the country, in collaboration with the union and its partners, to eradicate female genital mutilation, underage marriage, and female students school dropouts, Ms. Tekea called for enhanced participation of parents, administrations, and other stakeholders in Gash Barka Region in the effort.
Ms. Yihdega Yohannes, head of the union branch in the Gash Barka Region, stated that the union will continue to exert strong efforts to pass on the noble societal values, national history, and identity to the young generation.

Commending the role of women in development programs, Mr. Seium Gebreyesus, administrator of Teseney sub-zone, expressed the administration’s readiness to stand alongside the union branch in all its endeavors.
