The Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, together with AUDA-NEPAD, GIZ, and CIPESA, held a one-and-a-half-day validation workshop to align Lesotho’s Data Management Policy with the African Union Data Policy Framework (AUDPF).

Speaking at the event, Communications Minister, Ms Nthati Moorosi said the government is working to ensure national policies reflect Lesotho’s needs while aligning with Africa’s vision for data governance.

“Data is the new gold of the digital economy. It drives innovation, business, and informed government decisions. Without proper data governance, we cannot reach our full potential or meet sustainable development goals”, she said.

On the other hand, Mr Endrin Wanyama, Programme Manager at CIPESA, outlined key benefits of a strong data policy, including:

– Better public service delivery

– Greater transparency and accountability

– Easier communication between citizens and government

– Economic growth and innovation

– More trust in how government handles data

– Smarter allocation of resources to areas of need

The aim of today’s workshop is to build concensus on Lesotho data Management Policy.
