Nyatike UDA members reject zoning proposal

United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA) members from Nyatike Constituency in Migori County have rejected the idea of the Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM) on the zoning proposal.

The members who spoke during the UDA grassroots elections at Magunga Primary School in Nyatike said that those propagating zoning were cowards who fear losing their political seats.

Led by Kennedy Owuor, they said that each political party should be allowed to compete in elective elections to grow the democratic space in the country.

“ODM elected leaders want zoning because they know they haven’t fulfilled their pledges and promises; a platform that they were elected on with,” said Owuor.

On Thursday, April 24, President William Ruto and ODM leader Oburu Oginga co-chaired a high-level meeting at Statehouse, Nairobi, to address the zoning dispute to stabilise the political arrangement ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Former Nyatike Member of Parliament Peter Anyanga, who was presented with the certificate after being elected as the Professional Group Representative in Nyatike Constituency, applauded the peaceful process.

He said that we will continue to ensure that the UDA party remains stronger in the county to allow for a competitive democratic space within the Nyanza Region.
