County MP Supports Women Welfare Groups with Tents and Chairs to Boost Incomes
Rural women groups in Tharaka Nithi County are increasingly strengthening their economic activities through welfare initiatives aimed at improving household incomes and promoting financial independence.
This emerged during a visit by the County Woman Representative Susan Ngugi to Karumbi Welfare Group and Kagwati Clan Welfare Group in Mwimbi Ward, Maara Sub-County, where she commended women for their commitment to collective savings and community development.
Speaking during the event, the legislator said welfare groups continue to play a key role in empowering women and vulnerable families through organized savings, investment, and income-generating activities.
She noted that such initiatives are enabling members to start small businesses, support education for their children, and improve their living standards.
”I am committed to supporting grassroots empowerment programmes targeting both men and women. My office will continue working closely with community groups to promote self-reliance and economic stability,” said Ms Ngugi.
As part of the empowerment drive, she donated tents and chairs to both Karumbi Welfare Group and Kagwati Clan Welfare Group in Mwimbi Ward to help them generate income through hiring services during social and community events.
Each of the two groups received two 50-seater tents and 100 chairs, a support package expected to strengthen their income-generating activities and boost financial sustainability.
She encouraged more women to join welfare groups, embrace table banking, and adopt a saving culture as a pathway to improving household incomes and community welfare.
Karumbi Welfare Group Chairperson Margret Mugendi said the group has greatly benefited from table banking, which has enabled members to start small businesses, support their families, and contribute to local development.
She thanked the Woman Representative for the donation, saying the tents and chairs will create an additional source of income for both groups through renting to those in need of them.
Roselyn Karimi praised Susan Ngugi for consistently supporting grassroots empowerment initiatives across the county.
Karimi said the support reflects leadership focused on practical development projects that directly improve livelihoods at the community level.
