Parliament approves PM Robinah Nabbanja’s reappointment

KAMPALA
Parliament has today approved the appointment of Hon. Robinah Nabbanja as Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business in the House.
Nabbanja was first appointed Prime Minister in 2021 and was reappointed by H.E. President Yoweri Museveni for the 2026–2031 term last week.
The motion to approve her appointment was moved by the outgoing Health Minister, Jane Ruth Aceng. She said Nabbanja oversaw exemplary performance in the discharge of government business over the past five years.

“Hon. Nabbanja has been a pioneering and inspirational leader, being the first woman to hold the position of Prime Minister of Uganda,” Aceng said.
Hon. Fredrick Ruhindi, the Member of Parliament for Nakawa East, supported the motion, saying Nabbanja has been a versatile and effective Prime Minister.
Household income
Hon. Denis Namara, the Member of Parliament for Buyaga in Kagadi District, also supported the motion, saying Nabbanja has contributed to increasing household incomes and promoting socio-economic transformation.
“She has maintained an outstanding focus on household transformation. Her leadership of flagship prosperity programmes such as the Parish Development Model has contributed to reducing poverty,” he said.

He added that Nabbanja possesses extensive national and international leadership experience required for shaping policy.
“This is validated by her chairing of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development and other international engagements. She is an astute and hardworking leader and is referred to as ‘Bulldozer’ in our Bunyoro region because there is no challenge affecting local people that she cannot solve,” Namara added.
He stated that Nabbanja possesses all the qualities required to serve as Prime Minister.

In her brief acceptance speech, Nabbanja thanked the President for the trust and confidence placed in her, as well as the Speaker and Members of Parliament for approving her appointment.
Nabbanja pledged to continue building on the strong foundation already in place by effectively leading a robust service delivery team, strengthening the link between the Executive and the Legislature, and ensuring the continued availability of government business. She also pledged to ensure that ministers regularly attend Parliament and provide timely responses.

“The priorities of Government are very clear, as outlined in the National Development Plan IV and the 2026–2031 NRM Manifesto, aimed at improving household incomes and expanding our economy tenfold through agro-industrialisation, tourism development, mineral development, and science, technology, and innovation,” Nabbanja said.
She also promised effective implementation and monitoring of government interventions.
“I pledge continued commitment, collaboration, and teamwork during this ‘No Corruption, No More Sleep’ term of office as our country takes a qualitative leap into upper middle-income status,” Nabbanja said.
