As the 2021–2026 political term wraps up, we review the impact of affirmative action interventions implemented by the Ministry of Bunyoro Affairs in the Office of the Prime Minister.

Under the political leadership of Hon. Minister of State Jenipher Kacha Namuyangu, the Ministry advanced government efforts that boosted development and improved the livelihoods of members across 636 self-help groups.

The Ministry also established and supported Parish Community Associations (PCAs), which provided local communities with platforms for mobilisation, financial inclusion, and collective development initiatives.

Over 45,000 hand hoes and 150 heifers were distributed to various beneficiaries to improve livestock production and household incomes.

Furthermore, over 32,000 iron sheets were distributed to schools, religious institutions, and vulnerable individuals.

In terms of infrastructure, the Ministry constructed classrooms, administration blocks, storage and sanitation facilities, incinerators, and perimeter fencing at Bigando Primary School in Masindi District. These facilities have greatly improved the learning and teaching environment for pupils and teachers, respectively.

In the health sector, an ambulance was procured for Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, strengthening emergency response and access to healthcare services in the region.

In addition, 180 sewing machines were procured and distributed to the youth, enabling them to establish enterprises and generate income.

Generally, the interventions have contributed toward advancing inclusive development, empowering communities, and improving the quality of life for the people of Bunyoro. These programmes do not include those implemented by other ministries, departments and agencies of government in the region.
