As the 2021-2026 term ends, we bring you highlights of the interventions implemented by the Ministry of Karamoja Affairs over the past five years.

During this period, the Ministry has been led by Hon. Minister Dr. Goretti Kitutu and Minister of State Hon. Agnes Nandutu (June 2021–March 2024), and Hon. Peter Lokeris Teko and Minister of State Hon. Nambozo Florence (March 2024 – May 2026).

The projects executed by the ministry have greatly improved the living conditions of the people in the sub-region. For example, a total of 11,668 pieces of iron sheets were distributed to beneficiaries across the nine districts in the sub-region.

In partnership with the World Food Programme, the Ministry continued to implement the Karamoja Feeds Karamoja Programme, helping keep children in school. In addition, it has collaborated with various partners to implement seed multiplication programmes and enhance food security.

This is supporting the production of drought-resistant and high-yielding seed varieties including maize, sorghum, green grams, pasture seed, coffee, and grapes, among others.

Furthermore, the Ministry has facilitated efforts to consolidate peace and security through engagements with representatives from Kenya and South Sudan.

It has also held engagements with cultural leaders to further promote peace and coexistence among different communities in the sub-region. It is expected that the implementation of the ten-year Karamoja Regional Development Plan will accelerate development in the sub-region.
