UPND Alliance expands to 15 members
President Hakainde Hichilema says the UPND Alliance, which was formed in February 2021, must continue growing and accommodating more members.
The numbers in the UPND Alliance have increased, with five more political parties joining it yesterday.
The UPND Alliance comprises Charles Milupi’s Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD), Nevers Mumba’s New Nation Party (NNP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Restoration Party (NAREP), and Republican Progressive Party (RPP).

Other political parties in the alliance are the Democratic Party (DP), ABA, Party of National Unity and Progress (PNUP), Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and UPND.
The five political parties which joined the UPND Alliance yesterday are Charles Chanda’s United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ), United Progressive People (UPP) led by Saviour Chishimba, UNIP for Henry Muyoba, Miles Sampa’s PF and National Congress Party (NCP) led by Peter Chanda.
“Let me say welcome to our five alliance partners joining us. I speak with great respect to the United Party for National Development members who have agreed that this President will pursue a mission of bringing other colleagues into the bigger family.
“I thank the UPND for allowing us the leadership to do what we have been doing by bringing other political parties to work with us. UPND members, thank you so much. You know the value of working with others; we can utilise the capabilities of others,” President Hichilema said during the event at the UPND secretariat in Lusaka yesterday.
The President said it is heartening that the five opposition politicians joined the UPND Alliance.
“Now that you (five opposition leaders) have come, we must focus on you bringing all of your members on board. Leaders don’t move alone but with people.
“Bring your people onboard as well so that this UPND Alliance can grow to unify the country. This alliance is available to grow and accommodate more members,” he said.
President Hichilema further appreciated older partners of the UPND Alliance.
“Thank you for accepting that the UPND Alliance must continue to grow. There is enough room for every Zambian.
“This UPND doesn’t belong to HH, Mutale Nalumango or Collins Maoma. It belongs to the people of Zambia. It’s a vehicle that we have chosen to use through the vision that we have consistently espoused over the years,” said President Hichilema.
