THE GOVERNMENT OF LESOTHO WELCOMES BOTSWANA’S SUPPORT WITH FOOT AND MOUTH VACCINES FOLLOWING THE RECENT OUTBREAK.
The Government of Lesotho welcomes the support extended by the Republic of Botswana in the fight against Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), following the country’s first confirmed outbreak recorded in February 2026 in Butha-Buthe District.
The Office of the Government Spokesperson wishes to inform farmers and the general public that, during the Inaugural Session of the Lesotho–Botswana Bi-National Commission (BNC) held in Gaborone, the President of the Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, announced Botswana’s contribution of 100,000 doses of Foot-and-Mouth Disease vaccine to support Lesotho’s efforts to contain and eradicate the disease.
This gesture reflects the spirit of solidarity, friendship, and shared responsibility that continues to define the longstanding relationship between the two sister nations.
It also demonstrates the value of regional cooperation in safeguarding livelihoods, protecting agricultural production, and strengthening food security.
The Government of Lesotho remains committed to working closely with stakeholders, farming communities, and regional partners to effectively respond to the outbreak and protect the country’s livestock sector.
