President Hichilema Assures Peaceful 2026 Elections
President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed that Zambia will uphold its tradition of peaceful, credible, and fair elections.
Speaking during the Sabbath Music Fellowship organised by the Seventh Day Adventist Church at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, the Head of State assured citizens that the upcoming polls will be conducted in a calm and orderly manner.
“I can confirm and assure the people of Zambia that this election season will be peaceful. The nation will remain standing together. God will lead us through,” President Hichilema said.
He recalled the tense atmosphere ahead of the August 2021 elections, marked by tear gas and unrest, but stressed that this year’s campaign period will be different and better.
The President reminded politicians that campaigns are an opportunity to present ideas for national development, not personal gain. “Public office is about service. National interest comes first; personal interest follows later,” he said.
He further encouraged citizens to remain hopeful, noting that faith in God enables people to rise above challenges. “This is a Christian nation. We may belong to different churches, but the Body of Christ is one,” he added.
President Hichilema was accompanied by senior government officials, including Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa, Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary Joe Kalusa, and several Permanent Secretaries from Cabinet Office, Defence, Health, Local Government, and the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit
