Guy Scott Always Prioritised Zambia, Says President Hichilema

President Hakainde Hichilema has paid tribute to former Vice President Dr. Guy Lindsay Scott, remembering him as a selfless leader who consistently placed the nation’s interests above his own.
​Speaking at Dr. Scott’s Funeral Service at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka, President Hichilema highlighted that despite having the intellect and qualifications to build a career anywhere in the world, Dr. Scott consciously chose to make Zambia his home and dedicate his life to its people. He noted that Dr. Scott’s distinguished public career, with roles as a civil servant, Member of Parliament, Cabinet Minister, and Vice President, helped shape the country’s democratic path.

​President Hichilema praised Dr. Scott’s pivotal role during the political uncertainty following the passing of President Michael Sata in 2014. “Despite intense succession pressures, Dr. Scott stood firm in upholding the Constitution, maintaining national peace, and guiding Zambia through a smooth transition,” President Hichilema said.

Offering his sympathies to Dr. Scott’s family, the President stated that the nation is saddened by the passing of Dr. Scot who he described as a true patriot, adding that his legacy of courage and public service should inspire current and future leaders.
