President Yoweri Museveni has said that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Government restored cultural institutions to promote cultural pride and preserve Uganda’s cultural heritage.
In a message delivered by the Second Deputy Prime Minister, Chrispus Kiyonga, at the 18th coronation anniversary of Ssabanyala Baker Kimeze Mpagi Byarufu II in Kayunga District on Sunday, the President said the preservation of culture and heritage is important for current and future generations.

“Cultural institutions serve as a vehicle for displaying and preserving the rich African languages, norms, and practices,” President Museveni said. “It is not possible to develop without involving cultural institutions.”
The President congratulated the Banyala upon reaching this milestone and commended them for supporting their institution. The cultural institutions were abolished after the 1966 crisis, and the NRM Government started restoring them in the early 1990s.
