Govt to open Kampala, Mbarara Service Centres in November

KAMPALA

The Government of Uganda is moving to bring public services closer to citizens by establishing Regional Service Uganda Centres. The first two centres – Kampala and Mbarara – will be open to the public in November 2026.

The facilities are designed to provide citizens and businesses with access to services from multiple Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in one location, reducing the need to travel between different government offices to access essential services.

The initiative represents a significant step towards a more integrated and citizen-centred approach to public service delivery, with Government seeking to make its services more accessible, coordinated and responsive to the needs of Ugandans.

Speaking during an inter-agency coordination meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister on Thursday, the Deputy Head of Public Service responsible for performance and service delivery, Ms Jane Kyarisiima Mwesiga, stated that the success of the initiative will be measured by the difference it makes in the lives of citizens.

“The success of our centres will not be measured by the number of buildings we will complete but the number of services we shall deliver to the citizens.” she said.

This, she said, means that the focus should be firmly on the purpose of the centres, not simply bringing government institutions together physically. The facilities should also improve the experiences of citizens when they interact with Government.

“We exist because of the citizens, and as such we must reduce bureaucracy to improve service delivery to every Ugandan. Service delivery is at the core of Government business, and we must be organised around citizens.” Mwesiga said.
