PM Nabbanja emphasizes favorable environment as she courts UK Investors

LONDON

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has emphasized the conducive environment for investment in Uganda due to the stability and peace in the country.

“Uganda is one of the peaceful and stable countries in Africa with over 40 years of stability and good leadership. So when you invest your money in Uganda you are assured of returns on investment,” said Nabbanja.

Nabbanja made the call on Friday while delivering a key-note address to hundreds of Investors at the annual UK-Africa Investment Summit at the Royal HorseGuards Hotel in central London.

The UK-Africa Annual summit brings together investors from across the United Kingdom and African countries at a round table to discuss opportunities for investment in Africa, specifically Uganda.

Nabbanja, during her Key-note address, said that Uganda was the best investment destination in Africa because of the incentives put in place by the government and appealed to UK investors to sow their money in Uganda to make profits.

Uganda was named the top investment destination in Africa at the 2024 Annual Investment Meeting (AIM) Congress in Abu Dhabi.

Nabbanja briefed the potential investors that Uganda has enormous raw materials both in agriculture and minerals for investors to exploit.

“I want to invite you to Uganda to invest in Agro-processing, mineral development, Tourism and science, technology and innovations which are the key driving sectors of Uganda’s development agenda to grow the economy ten times by 2040,” noted Nabbanja.

The summit that ran under the theme “Trade Corridors and Industrial Platforms; From Access to Production”, was graced by members of the House Of Lords and other dignitaries from the UK government who praised Uganda as one of the best countries in the world for investment and promised to partner with us.

Uganda’s High Commissioner to UK Ambassador Nimisha Madhvani briefed the investors of the investment potentials in Uganda especially in oil and gas.

UK Ambassador to Uganda Her Excellency Lisa Chesney MBE lauded the people of Uganda for their hospitality and appealed to investors to come to Uganda.

The UK-Africa summit was organized by the Government of the United Kingdom in partnership with the Ugandan High Commission in the UK to promote Uganda’s development agenda.

The summit was also attended by Ugandan Ministers Jonard Asiimwe for Science, Technology and Innovations, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu for Internal Affairs, the Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda Prof. Augustus Nuwagamba, Col. Edith Nakalema of the Investor Protection Unit of State House among others.

Uganda exhibited Ugandan Coffee and the various investment opportunities in the four priority sectors.

In a related development the Prime Minister led the Ugandan Delegation to meet Mr. Nick Dyer, the Second Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), where he leads on international development priorities and ODA (Official Development Assistance.

Nabbanja appreciated the UK’s development support to Uganda over the years, while Mr. Dyer commended Uganda’s development agenda and its swift response to and management of public health emergencies, including Ebola.
