President Hichilema Touts Advanced Exploration Science as Key to Unlocking Zambia’s Mineral Wealth
President Hakainde Hichilema says advanced exploration science and technology will play a critical role in unlocking Zambia’s vast mineral wealth and accelerating growth in the mining sector.
Speaking after meeting a delegation from Kobold at State House, President Hichilema said the company’s cutting-edge exploration methods could significantly support the country’s drive to increase mineral production under the Government’s Grow Zambia agenda.
The Head of State said the presentation by the Kobold team demonstrated how innovation and technology can help identify new mineral deposits and expand Zambia’s mining potential.
President Hichilema noted that his administration has undertaken major policy reforms aimed at removing obstacles that previously hindered growth in the mining sector.
He said Government remains committed to creating an environment that supports investment and economic expansion, adding that barriers that once slowed the industry’s progress are being systematically addressed.
The President, however, warned that mining licenses must be actively utilised and not held for speculative purposes.
“We also reiterated that mining licenses must be put to productive use. The hoarding of licenses for speculative purposes will not be encouraged. It is simple: use it or lose it,” President Hichilema said.
He stressed that responsible resource development is essential if Zambia is to fully benefit from its mineral endowment and attract serious investors.

President Hichilema further reflected on the country’s recovery from what he described as a difficult period for the mining industry, saying the sector is now positioned for renewed growth.
He reaffirmed Government’s commitment to attracting quality investment, increasing production, creating jobs and ensuring that the benefits of the country’s mineral resources translate into broad-based economic prosperity for citizens.
The President said Zambia’s long-term vision is to leverage modern science, technology and strategic investment partnerships to transform the mining sector into a major driver of national development.
