CHINA HOSTED A FAREWELL RECEPTION FOR LESOTHO STUDENTS WITH THE AIM OF EQUIPPING THEM WITH SKILLS TO CONTRIBUTE MEANINGFULLY TO LESOTHO’S DEVELOPMENT.
In celebration of Lesotho students departing to China and Alumni of Chinese training programmes, Chinese Embassy hosted reception in Maseru for their exit.
In his address, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Yang Xiaokun congratulated Basotho youth worthy of China scholarship, saying this is a step to broaden their knowledge and skills.
He mentioned that for this cohort estimated at nine, brings a total number of Basotho who have studied under people’s-to-people’s programme for the last three years to 1250.
He appealed to these students, some of whom are youth to go and broaden their scope of learning in different fields that include agriculture, medicine and enterprise amongst others so that they can come back to transform the Mountain Kingdom.
Meanwhile, he pointed that this year China celebrates 105 anniversaries of the founding of the Communist Party of China, urging those going to go and study this history and establish how China has recorded several accomplishments economically and otherwise.
He reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting African countries including Lesotho through FOCAC- Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in several issues including areas of education.
In the same manner, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), Mr. Rats’iu Majara acknowledged this gesture, urging departing students to go and exchange culture, showcase Basotho for who they truly are.
Over and above that, he said education and human development remains critical for any country, citing this as one big aspect in that regard. He thanked China for its continued efforts in imparting Lesotho positively.
On behalf of departing students, Ms. Kananelo Makolana said she studied for first degree in China through the same programme that is international trade and economics, she also obtained Masters and she is now going to pursue PhD, hence grateful for the achievement.
She promised to come back home and change the narrative, ensure that Lesotho is positioned well as this will be her ninth year in China.
