Eritrean Delegation Participates in OACPS Session of the Council of Ministers
Asmara, 18 July 2026 – Eritrean delegation led by Mr. Negassi Kasa, Eritrea’s Ambassador to the European Union and the Benelux countries, participated in the 121st Session of the Council of Ministers of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States, convened in Brussels, Belgium, on 15 and 16 July.
The session, in which representatives from over 65 countries took part, was moderated by the current chairman, Mr. Seedy Keita, Minister of Finance and Economy of Gambia.
The session focused on strengthening the organization’s weak financial position, reviewing the contributions of member countries that were scheduled to be revised in 2017, as well as strengthening multilateral cooperation with strategic partners.
Regarding the organization’s financial position, the Eritrean delegation underlined that unless the organization becomes self-reliant and maintains ownership of its policies, it will not be able to engage as an equal partner with the European Union. The delegation also called on member countries to pay their contributions in a timely manner.
The session also adopted various recommendations aimed at supporting the organization’s activities.
