Kibingoti TVC infrastructure project reaches 60 per cent completion

The ongoing infrastructure improvement project at Kibingoti Vocational Training Centre (TVC) in Ndia Constituency, Kirinyaga County, has reached 60 per cent completion, raising hopes that the institution will soon have modern facilities for technical and vocational training.

The project is being implemented in partnership with the Safaricom M-PESA Foundation as part of efforts to strengthen vocational education infrastructure and expand opportunities for young people to acquire practical skills that can improve their employability.

The development includes the construction and improvement of an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory, an administration block, masonry and automotive workshops, a kitchen and an ablution block.

A team from the Kirinyaga County Assembly, led by Speaker Muteti Murimi, inspected the project to assess its progress. During the inspection, the team noted that the project has made significant progress. The only major works remaining before the project can be fully completed are landscaping and equipping the ICT laboratory, among other finishing works.

Speaking during the inspection, Speaker Muteti Murimi commended the progress made so far and praised the quality of workmanship at the construction site.

“I commend the progress and quality of workmanship and urge consideration of complementary improvements to some of the existing facilities,” Muteti said.

Members of the County Assembly accompanying the Speaker also participated in a tree-planting exercise within the institution as part of integrating environmental conservation into development projects.

The construction generated employment opportunities for local residents, with more than 60 people from the surrounding community having secured work during the construction phase.

They also later toured Kibingoti Market, another major infrastructure project being constructed by the National Government under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) and now approximately 98 per cent complete.

Once completed and operational, the market is expected to accommodate about 200 traders and provide a more organised and conducive environment for businesses operating in Kibingoti.

The facility will also include an ICT hub, providing residents and traders with access to digital services and technology. The inclusion of the ICT facility is expected to support digital connectivity and create additional opportunities for young people and members of the business community.

The two projects are expected to have wider economic benefits through employment creation, increased commercial activity and improved access to online services for residents of Ndia and the wider Kirinyaga County.
