LESOTHO HIGHLANDS DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY MARKED 63rd ANNIVERSARY OF HIS MAJESTY THE KING’S BIRTHDAY AND ITS OWN 40th ANNIVERSARY BY PLANTING 650 FRUIT TREES.

Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) planted 650 fruit trees (apples and pears) at Masakong, Malingoaneng in the district of Mokhotlong.

Similarly another batch of 650 trees will also be planted at Ha Rafolatsane, Khalahali side in due course.

In an interview with the Agency, Mr. Palo Mohlotsane from the Polihali Branch Public Relations Office, under the LHDA said the tree planting activity was meant to celebrate the 63rd King’s Birthday anniversary and the 40th anniversary of the LHDA existence since the signing of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project Treaty between Lesotho and South Africa governments.

Mr. Mohlotsane said the activity is intended to promote nutrition related issues and to support King Letsie III initiatives as the African Union Nutrition Champion.

He further said since LHDA is commemorating 40 years, the plan is to plant 40,000 trees of fruits and forest at the project areas, that include, Katse, Mohale, ‘Muela and Polihali, mentioning that each area will plant 10,000 trees.

He further said the planted area is a community orchard which will be protected through fencing.

He concluded by saying LHDA wishes King Letsie III a happy birthday, healthy and prosperous life.

Seate J01 Community Councilor Mr. Mosa Lengoasa, the development made will remain a legacy to benefit generations to come and expressed appreciation to LHDA for the fruit trees.

He pledged commitment that the trees will be protected as expected.

Meanwhile the Polihali Branch together with contractors and consultants cleaned the Malingoaneng area where the district pre-celebration prior to King’s Birthday main event on 17th July will be hosted.
