Lokiriama-Moruita road set for maintenance
The Department of Roads, Turkana County, has officially handed over the Lokiriama–Moruita road rehabilitation project to the contractor, marking the start of works aimed at improving accessibility and mobility in the area.
The road links Lokiriama Centre, Lodoyo at Atalokamusio and Moruita Village and is expected to enhance transportation, access to essential services, and economic activities for local communities.
County Surveyor Ekope Meshack noted that the improved road will enhance access to healthcare, education, and outreach services while contributing to better security and livelihoods.
“The rehabilitation of this road will improve transportation, strengthen service delivery, and create opportunities for socio-economic growth,” he said.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Council of Elders representative Ekeno Kabulokor thanked the County Government for responding to a community request raised during public participation forums.
We are happy that our concerns were heard and acted upon. This road will greatly improve movement and accessibility for our people,” said Kabulokor.
Present at the ceremony were Assistant Chief Mark Ayon; Lokiriama Village Administrator Irene Acharait; members of the Council of Elders, Pascal Namoru; and other community leaders and stakeholders.
