Milkias Maekele becomes champion of Eritrean Cycling Championship
Asmara, 28 June 2026 – The 16th Eritrean National Cycling Championship 2026 concluded today, 28 June, on the streets of Asmara.
In the 183.6 km race, in which elite and U-23 cyclists participated, Milkias Maekele, member of INEOS Grenadiers, became Champion of the Eritrean National Cycling Championship 2026, finishing the race in 4 hours, 16 minutes and 29 seconds, at an average speed of 41.9 km/h.
Milkias unleashed his attack in the last 30 km before the finish line and completed the race with a solo ride.
Henok Mulubrhan, member of Astana Club, and Natnael Tesfatsion, member of Movistar, stood second and third, finishing 2 minutes and 33 seconds and 2 minutes and 38 seconds behind Milkias, respectively.
In the Under-23 category, Milkias Maekele became champion, while Nftalem Efrem and Natan Tesfa’alem, both from Denden Club, secured second and third place.
In the junior category, Yonatan Tedros and Eyobel Efrem, both from Denden Club, and William Zerit, from Club ASBECO, secured first, second and third place.
In the female category, which was conducted at the Mai-Diminet area on 25 June, Suzana Fesehaye, from the Southern Region, became Champion of Eritrea 2026.
Medals and monetary awards were presented to the winners, and certificates of recognition were awarded to various institutions that contributed to the successful implementation of the event. The race was broadcast live by Eritrean Television and Radio Dimtsi Hafash.
