Successful cataract surgery on over 1,600 patients

Barentu, 17 October 2026- As a result that the Ministry of Health has been making substantial investment on the development of human resources and medical equipment, successful cataract surgery has been performed on 1 thousand 650 patients.

The surgeries were performed on patients in the sub-zones of Tesenay, Golij, and Akordet through collaboration between Berhan Aini Referral Hospital and the Ministry of Health branch in Gash Barka Region.

Dr. Eyob Beyn, coordinator of the program and an eye surgeon, said that more than 2,000 patients from the sub-zones of Mensura, Mogolo, and Akordet underwent eye examinations and received medical care at Akordet Hospital.

Dr. Eyob also called on the public to visit health facilities if they experience symptoms of eye problems and to carefully follow the advice provided by medical professionals.

Dr. Eyob commended local administrators and other partners for their contributions to the successful implementation of the program.

The beneficiaries, for their part, said that the successful surgeries had restored their vision.
