Call for Strengthened Participation in the Implementation of Development Programs
Mendefera, 5 August 2026 – Ambassador Abdella Musa, Minister of Local Government, called for coordinated efforts by the public and government institutions to advance development programs, particularly those related to infrastructure and agriculture. Ambassador Abdella made the call at a meeting held in Mendefera on 4 August to assess activities conducted during the first half of 2026.
Minister Abdella also urged all government institutions, particularly administrations, to play their due part in encouraging the public to strengthen its organization and awareness and to contribute to the implementation of the outlined development programs.
According to reports presented by heads of departments and sub-zonal administrators, extensive activities were carried out during the first half of the year, including water and soil conservation, the renovation of dirt roads, the installation of electricity lines, and support for families of martyrs. Potable-water projects were also implemented in seven villages.
The reports also indicated that 2.2 million tree seedlings were distributed for planting and that encouraging results are being registered in honey production and poultry farming.
Mr. Habteab Tesfatsion, Governor of the Southern Region, indicated that extensive water and soil conservation activities are being carried out across the region, particularly along the eastern escarpment.
Mr. Habteab also said that the construction of micro-dams and preschools, the expansion of potable-water supplies, and the enhancement of agricultural activities are among the programs planned for the second half of the year.
