President Hakainde Hichilema has assured residents of Chirundu district that the planned irrigation scheme project will be accelerated under UPND’s renewed mandate, stating that the project is a catalyst for the district’s broader development goals and urged voters to support the United Party for National Development (UPND) in the August 13 elections.

The President was speaking when he held a community engagement in Chirundu district before proceeding to Siavonga district.

Mr. Hichilema said the irrigation programme is central to improving food security and sustaining livelihoods in Southern Province. He noted that the government’s focus on agriculture complements ongoing investments in health, education, and infrastructure.

The President pledged the construction of a modern district hospital in Chirundu, complete with maternity wings, expanded water and sanitation facilities, and housing for civil servants. He also highlighted plans to rehabilitate township roads, improve mobile phone network coverage, and establish a dedicated skills training centre.

Addressing volunteer nurses in Chirundu, Mr. Hichilema announced that they had immediately been employed and will be placed on the government payroll next month, urging others to remain optimistic as opportunities continue to roll out. He stressed that no administration has employed as many workers as the UPND.

Mr. Hichilema reminded citizens of the past administration marked by political violence and cadreism, contrasting it with the current environment of restored public order in markets and bus stations. He said a vote for the ruling party is a vote to sustain peace and stability.
