Effort to Enhance Awareness and Organization of Women
Mendefera, 18 June 2026- At a meeting conducted by the National Union of Eritrean Women in Mendefera on 16 and 17 June to review the implementation of activities over the past six months, it was reported that encouraging activities have been carried out in enhancing awareness and organization.
At the meeting, in which heads of departments in the region and sub-zones took part, it was reported that over the past six months, sustainable awareness-raising activities have been conducted on the eradication of harmful practices, the use of health facilities, and fertility, as well as on enhancing the economic capacity of the union branch and the capacity of women.
The report further indicated that the participation and competitiveness of women in education, the use of health facilities, as well as women’s participation in popular campaigns and training, are increasing from time to time.
Moreover, awards were handed out to 238 outstanding female students in connection with 8 March, International Women’s Day, while financial and material support was extended to a number of disadvantaged women, and vocational training was provided to over 200 women.
Commending the efforts being exerted by heads of the union at all levels in collaboration with partners, Ms. Senait Afwerki, head of the National Union of Eritrean Women in the Southern Region, called for reinforced participation in the effort to eradicate harmful practices, the formation of union boards in the sub-zones, and sustainable follow-up on projects put in place by the union branch with a view to improving the livelihoods of women.
