KING LETSIE III TOURED TAITA TAVETA AND ACKNOWLEDGED INITIATIVES PROMOTING FOOD SECURITY AND POVERTY REDUCTION.

His Majesty King Letsie III on a second day embarked on a field engagement in Taita Taveta County to gain first-hand experience of drought-affected areas and to highlight the evolving food security situation in Africa.

Speaking during the visit, His Majesty commended the partnership between the Kenya Red Cross and the Taita Taveta County Government, noting that it has played a pivotal role in empowering communities, securing food security, and enhancing job creation.

He congratulated the first graduating class of Taveta Technical and Vocational College, urging the 52 graduates to uphold the spirit that made them pioneers of the institution. He also applauded Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime for his courage and foresight in addressing nutrition and food security.

Governor Mwadime, in his remarks, described the partnership as “charismatic” and said such collaborations must be cherished and replicated. He thanked His Majesty for honoring the invitation.

The King toured the Taveta Sunflower Growers Processing Plant, a project by the British Red Cross, Kenya Red Cross, and the county government, where he planted a Trichilia emetica, or Natal Mahogany tree. He also visited the Kimorigo rice processing plant, which supports local farmers and youth employment.

The visit underscores regional efforts to address hunger and build resilience amid climate challenges.
