The newly appointed Minister of Home Affairs and Police, Mrs. Voeswa Tsheka was on a familiarisation tour in Mokhotlong on Wednesday.
During her visit in the district, Mrs. Tsheka paid courtesy on the District Administrator’s (DA) office where she was welcomed by Mr. Mathealira Khatleli who was standing in for DA.
The Minister also met with the head of sections within the Ministry that included the Passport Office, National Identity and Civil Registration (NICR), Livestock Registration, Markings and Information System (LRMIS) and the Police.
She explained that the purpose of her visit was to also get the challenges the staff face that hinder day to day operations and see how they can be addressed for improved service delivery by employees under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Police.
The staff in the aforementioned sections said the main challenge they face is lack of transport saying they need vehicles to reach out to communities and provide services effectively.
They also said they need protective clothing as they work under harsh weather conditions in the district.
The Minister toured the cattle impoundment (Sekete), and the Sani Pass border office where employees also told her their work challenges.
The Minister was accompanied by Mrs. Tsepiso Mosaasane, Immigration Manager for districts in the Northern part of the country.
