President Hichilema champions delivery, not processes

President Hakainde Hichilema says Zambia’s public service should dedicate itself to a culture of delivery, rather than processes.

He was speaking at the 2026 Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) national delivery day at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka today.

‘From Commitments to Results, Delivering for the People’ was the theme for the event.

President Hichilema established the PDU in March 2023 to accelerate the implementation of his priority government programmes and projects.

He then apointed Kusobile Kamwambi as the head of the PDU.

“Let us dedicate ourselves to a culture of delivery, rather than a culture of processes. We should dedicate ourselves to a culture of getting things done.

“We should not be saying ‘this is how we work.’ Once we embrace the culture of delivery, we will be better as a country,” President Hichilema said.

The President asked people in the public service to move at the same pace.

“We cannot afford to have a country where portions of it are moving faster while others are moving slower. Citizens expect to be treated fairly by this government,” he said.

President said government policies, programmes and projects must be meaningful to the people.

“Citizens want to see results. Sometimes citizen don’t understand processes. People want to see results but sometimes in the public sector, we want to cherish processes more than results.

“Let’s focus on the results. Processes should only lead us to the results. That’s why we should be able to change processes if they are not working because we want results,” the President said.

President Hichilema added that Zambia is currently walking the right path, except it has to walk faster and widen the path.

“We can do more and more should and will be done. When we do more, the people who put us in public office will benefit. We should do it with pride.

“Resources are always limited. What matters is how we use the limited resources. As a country, we have a chance to take-off. The country is on the edge of take-off,” said President Hichilema.
