President Hakainde Hichilema has today commissioned the Mongu–Limulunga road, declaring that Zambia’s development rests on vision, discipline, and care for its citizens. “Things do happen when the vision for development is clear,” he said.

Speaking in Mongu during the commissioning, President Hichilema stressed that government projects must be executed with integrity. “Projects must be done at the right price, quality, and delivered on time,” he said.
He said the new road will ease travel, open Limulunga to investment, and stand as proof of delivery of the New Dawn Government.

The President added that the motivation behind such projects was love for the people. “We were elected into office to serve the people of Zambia. We love, care for them, and we deliver. Love, care and delivery, that is our commitment,” he said.
He pointed to development initiatives in other provinces and urged citizens to continue supporting the administration. “For us to do more work, we need your support, your vote. This road is a product of your vote in 2021,” he said.

President Hichilema thanked the people of Western Province for their patience, recalling the 23 years the UPND party spent in opposition. “It was your support that gave me hope and confidence. Thank you for standing with us,” he said.

Infrastructure Minister Charles Milupi gave an account of how the project had been mismanaged before. He revealed that the previous government had spent $14 million on just 3km of road out of a $30 million contract amount. “When we came in, only $17 million was left. We engaged the contractor for a discount and secured $5 million in savings,” Mr Milupi said.

He explained that the savings were reinvested into road extensions leading to Nayuma, Kalango, the harbor, and the dual carriageway from the roundabout to Kambule. He said bridges at Lwanginga and Silanda were also built from the same funds. “The method of construction was professional and the road will last a very long time,” Mr. Milupi assured.

He added that other major road projects are already underway, including the Kafue–Hook Bridge, the Katunda–Lukulu road, and preparations to sign off on the Kazungula–Sesheke road.

The Mongu–Limulunga road, a 14‑kilometer stretch, also carries historical weight as the route is tied to the 2017 incident in which President Hichilema was arrested and charged with treason, leading to his 127‑day detention.
