President Hakainde Hichilema has described Lubwa Mission in Chinsali district as a heritage site, saying it is humbling for his family to contribute to its development.

President Hichilema made these remarks when he handed over a one-by-four classroom block and a solar-powered borehole to Lubwa Mission Primary School, built by his family at a cost of two million kwacha.

The President said the gesture was meant to complement government efforts, noting that his family has been undertaking similar projects across the country for the past 30 years.

“Education is the best equaliser, investment and inheritance. With education, nothing is impossible, not even the sky is the limit. Education opens doors,” he said, citing Zambia’s first President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, as an example of how schooling at Lubwa Mission shaped his leadership journey.

President Hichilema thanked the community for their support and encouraged privileged citizens to give back to society. He explained that the classroom block was designed to last for generations, with steel incorporated into the structure to enhance durability.

“We who have been privileged must remember where we are coming from and our roots,” he said, adding that his family had built similar structures long before he became President.

He urged the community to make full use of the new facilities and called for continued collaboration in developing complementary infrastructure to support education.

Muchinga Presbytery Bishop Festus Chulu expressed gratitude to the President and his family for the donation, saying the classroom block and borehole would promote good water reticulation and improve learning conditions.

“This is a symbol of hope, opportunity and servant leadership to help disadvantaged communities. We commend you for honouring your pledge, which has strengthened faith in leadership that remembers and delivers. Lubwa has a special place in the history of the nation. By investing here, you have paid tribute to its legacy built on the belief that education is a powerful tool for social transformation,” Bishop Chulu said.

He added that education remains the great equaliser where barriers are broken, talents discovered and opportunities unlocked.

“Leaders must prioritize education as the foundation of progress. The UCZ will continue to partner with government in education and moral formation, showing compassion for the most vulnerable in society, especially disadvantaged children seeking access to education,” he said.

Chief Nkula also praised the gesture, saying the people were indebted to President Hichilema and his family.

“Zambia needs action-oriented persons, not lip service. We have produced a lot of prominent people who have not come back to plough back. We will guard jealously what has been constructed. People believe in your leadership, that’s why they have come. God bless you,” he said.
