President Hichilema Welcomes New Envoys, Calls for Unity in a Divided World
President Hakainde Hichilema today received Letters of Credence from newly appointed High Commissioners and Ambassadors representing Tanzania, Indonesia, Greece, Norway, Gabon and Mexico.
Speaking at State House, Mr. Hichilema described the ceremony as a continuation of Zambia’s partnerships with nations, cutting across people, business and government. He stressed that in a polarized world, cooperation is more vital than ever, citing lessons from the world wars, forced migrations and the achievements of working together through the United Nations system.
The President urged nations to understand each other’s needs and common interests, adding that the digital age should bring countries closer through shared benefits. He reaffirmed that Zambia’s foreign policy is anchored on peace, security and stability, warning that “instability anywhere is instability everywhere.”
Mr. Hichilema also pushed for stronger economic diplomacy, encouraging more trade and investment in mining and industrialisation. He invited the envoys to establish embassies in Zambia, noting the country’s long-standing relations with their nations.
Tanzania’s envoy, High Commissioner Eng. Cyprian Luhemeja, hailed the historic solidarity between the two countries, forged during the liberation struggles of southern Africa. He pledged to deepen cooperation in trade, transport, logistics, agriculture, mining, energy, education and culture.
Norway’s Ambassador, Ms. Sofie Anne Bjelland, praised Zambia’s constructive role in promoting regional stability, sustainable development and climate action. She wished the country peaceful and credible elections that would strengthen democratic institutions and reflect the will of the people.
Other diplomats who presented credentials included Mr. Arief Hidayat of Indonesia, Ms. Edwidge Koumby Missambo of Gabon, and Ms. Sara Valdes Bolano of Mexico.
