President Yoweri Museveni has hailed the Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Majesty Wilberforce William Gabula Nadiope IV, for cooperating with the Government and promoting unity among the people of the Busoga sub-region.

The President said that, under the Kyabazinga’s leadership, the Busoga Kingdom has remained a beacon of peace and a strong partner of the Government in education, health and development initiatives.

This was contained in President Museveni’s message, delivered by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, at the 12th Coronation Anniversary of the Kyabazinga in Mayuge District on Saturday.

“As you mark your 12th Coronation Anniversary, I take this opportunity to join the Basoga and all Ugandans in wishing you memorable and peaceful celebrations,” the President said. “Twelve years ago, Busoga entered a new chapter of unity, identity and cultural renewal.”

The President added that his Government values its partnership with the Busoga Kingdom.

“We assure Your Majesty that the Central Government remains committed to supporting Busoga’s development agenda, particularly in boosting agriculture, infrastructure and commercial transformation in the region,” President Museveni said.

When the NRM came to power in 1986, President Museveni said, it found most communities in Uganda in cultural limbo.

“This is why we restored the monarchies in July 1993,” he added. “The decision to restore cultural institutions and create new ones for those communities that so wished was premised on giving our people the freedom to express and preserve their positive norms, practices and values.”

In his speech, the Kyabazinga said the Kingdom’s emphasis is on education and youth skilling, as well as fighting teenage pregnancy and poverty. President Museveni contributed Shs30 million towards organising the function.
