Seminar focusing on enhancing understanding of significance of tourism

Assab, 06 May 2026 – A seminar focusing on enhancing students’ understanding of the significance of tourism in the national development has been conducted for students of Woldeab Woldemariam High School in the port city of Assab.

The seminar mainly focused on the significance of preserving tourism resources in the Southern Red Sea Region, as well as its natural and historical heritage.

Indicating that the topography of the Southern Red Sea Region consists of 49% plains, 44% mountains and hills, and 7% earthquake-prone areas, and the region also possesses over 60 islands, Mr. Abdella Hizom, representative of the Tourism Department in the region, said that the region has significant potential for the development of the tourism sector.

Mr. Abdella further noted that the ancient and historical sites of Rehaita, Suduhela, Berasole and Askoma in Southern Denkalia; the seabirds, fish and sea tortoises; Iddi semi-urban center in Central Denkalia; and the ancient mosques in Araeta, Tio and Miedir are among the tourist attraction sites in the region.
