Treat waste as a resource, PM Nabbanja urges Ugandans

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has urged Ugandans to change their perception of garbage and waste management to keep the country clean.

“Countries are treating garbage as a resource, but we still look at it as a burden here. It is a resource that can create employment and enterprises. We need to change our perception towards garbage and waste management.” she said.

The Premier added that waste should be treated as a resource that can be recycled into useful products, create jobs and generate income, as the Government steps up efforts to promote a culture of cleanliness across the country.

She urged households, businesses and institutions to sort garbage at source and stop dumping it in drainage channels, wetlands and other public spaces.

The Prime Minister was speaking during the second National Cleaning Day at Kyaliwajala UMEA Primary School in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, where Vice President Her Excellency Jessica Alupo led public officials and residents in cleaning activities on Saturday.

The 3rd Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Rukia Nakadama, and ministers Dr Chris Baryomunsi (Health), Dr Monica Musenero (Energy and Mineral Development), and Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba (ICT and National Guidance) also participated in the activities.

Others included the Deputy Head of Public Service, Ms Jane Mwesiga, permanent secretaries and other technical officers.
