President Hakainde Hichilema has concluded a development and mobilization tour of Eastern Province, underscoring his administration’s commitment to transforming rural districts into economic hubs through education, agriculture, and decentralization.

The Head of State visited Chama, Chasefu, Lundazi, Lumezi, Nyimba, Petauke, Lusangazi, and Sinda, engaging with residents at rallies about ongoing development activities. His message emphasised the pillars of free education, agricultural support, and the expanded Constituency Development Fund as engines of growth.

In Lundazi, President Hichilema highlighted the success of the free education policy, which has returned more than 2.5 million children to classrooms. He described education as a long-term economic investment and pledged continued recruitment of teachers to stabilize ratios.

He also announced infrastructure upgrades, including rehabilitation of the Chama-Lundazi-Chipata Road, completion of the Lundazi bus station and market, and development of the Lundazi Airstrip to enhance trade and tourism.

In Chama, the President focused on agriculture, announcing the scaling up of the Farmer Input Support Programme to boost productivity among small-scale farmers.

He commended the district’s peaceful civic environment, noting that political violence has been curbed since 2021. He further pointed out that the creation of a third constituency in Chama will strengthen representation and accelerate service delivery.

Addressing residents in Chasefu, President Hichilema reaffirmed his administration’s philosophy that no district should be left behind. He said decentralization ensures resources reach communities directly, funding projects in healthcare, water, and education.

Concluding  his tour, the President urged the public service to prioritize tangible results over bureaucracy.

“Citizens want to see results, not just processes,” he said, stressing that provinces must evolve into regional economic hubs.

With the expanded Constituency Development Fund as the financial backbone, the New Dawn administration continues to anchor governance on localized infrastructure that improves the daily lives of citizens.
