President Hakainde Hichilema today celebrated Easter Sunday at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, describing the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the ultimate triumph of love, sacrifice, and redemption.

Addressing the congregation, the Head of State called on all Zambians to embrace a lifestyle of compassion and forgiveness, stressing that these values should not be reserved for specific seasons.

“There are no special times or particular times, we extend love, care, compassion and forgiveness to others,” he stated.

He urged citizens to reject hate and division, calling on true followers of Christ to live out the national motto of “One Zambia, One Nation” to achieve prosperity.

Acknowledging the weight of leadership, the President noted that national strength is rooted in faith.

“Our strength lies in Christ, outside of that we are extremely vulnerable, we are weak and we could make mistakes, as we always do being human,” he said.

He further encouraged communities to choose inclusion over exclusion, reminding the nation that all human beings are created by God.

During his address, President Hichilema also spoke directly to citizens facing mental health struggles or personal hardships. He implored those in distress not to take their own lives but to lean on their communities for support.

“A problem shared is half solved, please don’t commit suicide, when you can’t deal with a problem alone, there is someone who can help; you are not alone,” the President said.

Turning to the country’s democratic future, the Head of State assured the nation that the 2026 general elections would be free, fair, and credible, serving as a building block toward a more stable Zambia.

In his homily Anglican Archbishop of Central Africa and Bishop of Lusaka Diocese, Dr. Albert Chama, urged Christians to continue Christ’s mission of healing and feeding the poor. He urged the faithful to step out in authority to foster reconciliation and guide others.

“We are the ones to change the world; we are the only disciples of Jesus who have remained,” the Archbishop said, concluding that the mission of Christ did not end at the grave but lives on through the actions of his followers.
